Large-scale Russian Assaults Cut Electricity Throughout Kyiv

Power facilities under attack in the region
Ukraine's power facilities have come under escalating attacks in the past few days

During the night, Russian missile and drone strikes have led to blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were injured while residents in the city's east were experienced blackouts and dealt with interruptions to drinking water, according to local authorities.

Simultaneously, a seven-year-old child was lost their life in a separate aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia region in the country's south-east, based on information from regional authorities.

Moscow has escalated strikes on power infrastructure over recent weeks, while Ukrainian leadership has requested "real steps" from allies to increase pressure on Moscow.

"The necessity is not window dressing but strong steps - from the America, the EU and the Group of Seven - in supplying defensive weapons and implementing restrictions," he wrote in a public message.

Authorities reported that numerous aerial vehicles and over thirty missiles struck the country's power systems, describing such strikes as "strategic and deliberate" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as winter approaches.

Government representatives said Russia was "launching a major assault" and repair crews were striving to restore power.

A wave of strikes damaged power facilities and residential structures in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people hurt in the attacks on the capital have been taken to hospital, according to local officials.
